Hiromi Uekusa has been a member of New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Seiji Ozawa, since 1987.
Born in Tokyo, Japan. Hiromi began to study the cello at the age of eleven, and studied at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music under the late professor Yasushi Horie.
From 1989 to 1991, she studied with professor Yehuda Hanani in Cincinnati, Ohio where she performed a recital.

In recent years, Hiromi has specialized in the performance of Latin Music, and had a successful recital in Japan entitled "Journey of Spanish music to Tango by Cello".

Hiromi is a featured cellist on Kiyoshi Takahashi's album "Viva Latina"(Nippon Columbia label),
worked with jazz pianist, Frank Zottoli, on his album recorded in Los Angeles and is now recognized as a leading Latin music cellist.
